This city centre 5k route is both flat and traffic free.

Run Leeds with Leeds Girls Can used this very route for a 5k fun run to celebrate International Women’s Day this March. We liked it so much, we have turned it into a permanent route for the website! Enjoy.

Starting at the Royal Armouries Square at Leeds Dock, this is a super an easy towpath trail, that is clearly signposted throughout. Just follow the signs for Trans Pennine trail. There are a couple of pedestrian bridges to cross on route, but if you follow the signage, you cannot go wrong.

This well marked path follows the River Aire for 2.5k, but feel free to add on and make it longer – the Trans Pennine Trail goes on for miles! Around the 2.5k mark you will cross over another footbridge and see the canoe club in the distance. If you just want a 5k run, then turn around here and retrace your steps back to the finish.

There are a couple of pedestrian bridges to cross on route, but if you follow the signage for the Trans Pennine Trail, you cannot go wrong.

As you approach the end, you will pass the impressive mural of our very own Leeds based Nicola Adams. A British former professional Boxer, OBE and Olympic medal winner, let her achievements inspire you as you push to the end.

Facilities

There is a cafe and toilets in the Royal Armouries Museum, as well as a range of cafes, including North Star at Leeds Dock.

Arriving by Public Transport

By Bus:

First bus service 29 from outside Leeds Train Station.
The bus stops on Chadwick street, which runs directly alongside
Leeds Dock.

By Water Taxi:
The water taxi service runs every Saturday from 10am-6pm

By foot or by bike:
Leeds Dock is next door to The Royal Armouries, a 10 minute stroll from
Leeds Station and Trinity shopping centre.
There is plenty of bike storage available.

If you’re driving there is plenty of parking either on street or in the
