This is a lovely run round what was once Lofthouse Colliery. When the pit closed in 1981 the land was given back to nature. There are lots of red marker signs so you can’t get lost.

If you do the full loop it is just over 2 kilometres. However, you can cut across the site on one of the many paths. There are options to extend your run up towards Carr Gate where there are more trails to be found.
Be prepared to see squirrels and listen to cuckoos as you run. This was also the site of the Lofthouse pit disaster in 1973 and there are reminders of this on your way round.
