The South Leeds Bah Humbug 10k

Nick Smith

Sunday 9th December sees the Hunslet Rugby Foundation. Morley Running Club, South Leeds Lakers and South Leeds Sisters join forces to host the inaugural Bah Humbug 10k.

Setting off on the track at South Leeds Stadium runners are soon faced with the infamous Scrooge Hill as they head for the ancient woodland of Middleton Woods. A winding trail route will present a challenge for those looking for a quick time, whilst the beautiful surroundings will make it an enjoyable canter for those of a more sedate pace.

Race organiser Phil Hodgson commented “Running in South Leeds has exploded over the last few years. There is fantastic camaraderie between the clubs so what better way to celebrate this than by putting on a great event for the wider running community at Christmas.  The run will be chip timed and the facilities at the stadium are second to none. There are lockers and showers available (for a small charge) as well as indoor muster areas to take advantage of pre-race should the weather be a bit nippy”.

“Staging a race in December you are always going to be at risk to the elements.  We have a couple a contingency routes already mapped out so are confident we can overcome whatever is thrown at us. Yorkshire folk tend to be hardy bunch so a bit of snow and ice won’t put us off.  In the event of a cancellation a full refund will be given less a small admin fee (£2 max)”.

Old Ebenezer may have been a miser but the same can’t be said of the good folk of South Leeds.  As well as the 10k there will be a free children’s 800m fun run on the track, with all youngsters receiving a medal.

Finishers of the main race will receive a Bah Humbug tec t-shirt and can enjoy a mulled wine in the comfort of the stadium bars. Who knows they may even be a Christmas Carol or two.
