A welcoming friendly inclusive group of all abilities. Makes me look forward to my weekly run with them.

Highly recommend if you want to give running a go but find the prospect of joining a club too much 🙂

First of all let me commend you on the success you have made of the running club and the massive increase in participation. Now the gripe.

Certain members of the club seem to think it’s fine to make comments about the speed and standard of some of your members. Remarks like “we may as well be walking” are not very encouraging to people trying to get fit and improve.

May I suggest to the blokes who make these remarks that Pudsey and Bramley AC train at Priesthorpe School. These super runners should go up there and prove how good they really are or maybe just been faster than fun runners and joggers is their thing.

      Hi,

Thank you for your post and highlighting your concerns. I set up Farsley Flyers to be inclusive to all abilities. I try and make every new member feel welcome and reach out that we do cater for all abilities and to support that we offer up to 5 different groups each week to cover a range of distances and “paces”

You are quite right that noone should be made to feel that they are too slow - a runner is a runner and there are far more other advantages to running than just being able to cover a distance at a quicker pace. I hope that those “few” you mention are in the minority in their outlook and hopefully it has been a thoughtless slur rather than a fixed mindset.

We aim to run in a positive social environment and Thankyou for your concerns I will pop a post out to our members to highlight that we are all on our own journeys and support is the key to our success.

Should you have any further concerns please do speak to me or any other run leader direct. I do hope that you/wife continue to run with us. Feedback like this is what helps us to get try and get it right. Should you want to message me direct then you can do on [email protected]

A brilliant, really welcoming group who really looks after you. I started running with them in January after getting part way through the couch to 5k app and have moved between group 1 and 2 and been supported and encouraged all the way. Even when I’ve missed some weeks and come back they are just as friendly and supportive no matter how much I’ve struggled. Amazing run leaders, thanks for giving up so much of your time to help and support others.

Hi ! A year ago I decided I wanted to get fit so I turned up in the car park in Farsley to meet the Farsley Flyers. I was a complete beginner and ran with the group. I found it so hard, walked a lot, ran a bit and did my best to keep breathing ! Really struggled but was so encouraged by everyone in the group , they looped round so I was never alone at the back and don’t know how but kept me going till the run was over ! I turned up the next week and did it all again ! The support of all at the club kept me going and they made me realise that we are all runners - we just run and it doesn’t matter if I am fast or slow as long as I am ok and want to run . A year later I am still running and in the 6k crew at the min . So glad I turned up in that car park - it worked - I am much fitter and walked the three Yorkshire peaks few weeks ago , turned out to be a bit of a life changer ! Hats off to you Farsley Flyer crew!
