Learn To Run With Us!

Claire Senior

We are pleased to announce our ‘Couch to 5km’ running group, or as we like to call it ‘Couch Potato to Hot Potato’. Coaching will be delivered by our own Claire Senior, a personal trainer and LiRF (Leader in Running Fitness).

£15 registration for a 6 week course.

Leeds Frontrunners is offering you the chance to join our Couch to 5K running programme starting on Sunday 19th June at 10.45 am. The programme is aimed at all running abilities from absolute beginners, those who haven’t done any for a while, to those who may be returning from injury – the C25K programme will work for you all. Meet the LFR team and your fellow C25k-ers at Roundhay Park outside the Lakeside Cafe, and enjoy a chat, friendship and the opportunity to work towards a shared goal as a team.

The programme requires 2 sessions per week – Sundays with us, and 1 on your own at a time of your choosing. You can celebrate your success with the club at our LGBT 5k on August 6th.  This year sees the 10th anniversary of Leeds Pride and what better way to celebrate than with a brand new event. Welcome to Leeds’ very first LGBT Pride 5km run! Open to all with limited spot prizes available to new participants – what’s not to love about that! So grab your trainers and rainbows and bring your friends along and join in the Pride fun together.

There is a free smartphone app to help your training.  No special kit is required, just comfortable t-shirt/long-sleeved shirt, and shorts or leggings, and some sports shoes.

The programme very gradually progresses you from jog/walking to the goal of running a full 5K (3.1 miles). This structured approach is tried and trusted by many sport coaches and health organisations including the NHS and has proven to work. So don’t be daunted by thoughts of not being good/fast/fit enough, the LFR run leaders (who all started by taking that first step) and all of our LFR club members are all here to support and encourage you all the way through.

Tom Bosworth, British Race Walker record holder, regularly crosses paths with the Frontrunners around Roundhay Lake on a Saturday morning. Tom believes:

Running and sport in general is something everyone can be involved in, not only for fitness but for a healthy mind and a great social environment. The pride 5km park run is a great opportunity for all to get involved, meet new people and keep fit, in a safe, friendly environment
